"Phamous Phil," also known as Philip Schmidt, Jr., was born and raised in Lower Providence. He attended Visitation and attended Methacton High. After spending time in Tennessee where he learned to perfect barbeque, he fell in love with the food and preparation and decided to pursue his passion of bringing the southern style barbeque to the northeast. Phil became a member of the Kansas City BBQ Society and began judging for the annual competition. He emphasizes his slow-cooked meats, smoked with a variety of fruit wood and red oak flavor, and his homem ade Phamous Phil's Inphamous Sauce that offers the perfect addition without an overpowering taste. Known for his pork barbeque and brisket sandwiches, he also offers ribs, smoked chicken salad, and a full menu of options for the hungry mouth. Not only does the food stay true to southern style, but the homemade drinks do as well. Phamous Phil's Barbeque and Grille offers homemade lemonade and iced tea along with a homemade sweetener. Being a judge for the barbeque cook-offs not only provides him with a passion and desire to make great food, but allows Phil to know what a barbeque should or should not taste like.
